 Jonesboro Junior Beta Club Participates in State Competition



Springfield, Illinois, March 5-6, 2024 – National Beta members from Jonesboro Elementary are celebrating their recent participation in the Illinois Junior Beta State Convention. They were announced as winners of the following competitions: Black & White Photography (1st): Melaina Bundren; Drawing (1st): Gabby Newberry; Fiber Arts (3rd): Sophia Hill; Instrumental Solo (3rd): Levi Hill; Marketing & Communications (3rd) : Damon Easter, Hayden Staples, Sophia Wells, Macayla Nance, & Sophia Hill; Digital Portfolio (3rd): Elly Mays & Jalynn Moss.


National Beta State Convention allows students the opportunity to compete in various academic, STEM-based, arts, and performing arts competitions. These victories at the state level provide an opportunity to compete at the national level. The National Convention will be held at the Savannah International Convention Center in Savannah, GA during Summer 2024.

 
Along with the winners from the Illinois Junior Beta State Convention, other Jonesboro Junior Beta Club members will compete at the National Beta Convention.  These include the exhibitions: Reimagine, Recreate, Recycle: Lindyn Eudy, Levi Hill, & Smith Wilson; Meeting of the Minds: Trent Miller, Clara Mix, Gabby Newberry, & Hayden Lewis.  Other students qualified for National competitions at the Beta Leadership event at SEMO held last September: Lead Outside the Box: Seth Cochran, Macayla Nance, and Sophia Wells; Collaboration Connection: Hayden Staples, Damon Easter, Sophia Hill, & Melaina Bundren; Project Proposal: Elly Mays, Addie Suggs, and Jalynn Moss. Mrs. Pamela Turner is the club's sponsor.


With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.

 
The Anna Kiwanis is helping Union County Junior Beta Clubs with their fundraising efforts by hosting a Fish Fry at the Anna Kiwanis Building at Anna Park on Saturday, April 20, from 4-7 p.m.  The meal includes: fish, French fries, slaw, baked beans, and a drink.  Advance tickets are $12 or $15 at the door.  A bake sale of delicious desserts will also be available, with most items costing $2 each.  Meals may be taken to go.
